Aikido is a Japanese Martial Art created during the 1920’s by Morihei Ueshiba, an expert who reached the highest level of mastery in the classical Japanese Martial Arts. Officially recognized by the Japanese government in 1940, the Aikikai Foundation is the parent organization for the development and popularization of Aikido throughout the world.
Iaido uses the Japanese sword in techniques where the blade is drawn and a cut is made in one motion. Today, Iaido is practised to discipline the mind and body and seek self-improvement. We train in both ZNKR seitei and Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu koryu Iaido. ZNKR seitei Iaido is the modern standard form of the All Japan Kendo Federation, and Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu is a traditional form with a history of around 400 years. Aikido appeals to many different kinds of people, both as a form of exercise and as a form of self-defence.
Aikido does not require physical strength or an aggressive spirit. So, regardless of your age, your physical size or your state of fitness, with Aikido you will soon learn how to immobilize, pin down or throw an opponent with relative ease.
The Aikido we practice here ‘Aikikai’ is the same as the one practiced in Hombu Dojo (World headquater dojo in Tokyo, Japan).
